Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: I'm gonna say this once. 'Gonna say it simple. And I hope to God for your sakes you all listen. There are no Abominable Snowmen. There are so Sasquatches. There are no Big Feet! [the family begins to giggle. Unbeknownst to Wrightwood, Harry is standing right behind him] Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: Am I missing something?

Some Awesome things from 2008

2008 produced a lot of bad things, like a credit crisis and a recession, but there some cool things that came out of this year. Here are some of them:

The Dark Knight.
I saw this movie three times in the theaters: the midnight release, IMAX, and the $3 brew-and-view. I'll probably see it again in IMAX when it's re-released in January, surpassing my in-theater viewings of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I still think Towers is a superior movie, but The Dark Knight was definately my favorite movie of 2008. There Will Be Blood and Burn After Reading round out the top three.

Skeletal Lamping by Of Montreal.
My favorite album of 2008. Listening to it is like watching Arrested Development: you continually pick up on new things to like...and they are both hilarious.

BlackBerry Storm.
What iPhone?

Bikes versus Cars.

A sad series of stories (there were some random violent clashes between bike commuters and car drivers this summer) that The Oregonian turned into a parody with its ridiculously oversized headlines. The Oregonian's front pages, obviously not the incidents, merits the recognition of "Awesome in 2008."

Freaks and Geeks.
I realize this show aired (and was subsequently cancelled) almost ten years ago, but it's never too late to discover an awesome show and ask for the DVDs for Christmas. I have a whole new appreciation for "Lady" by Styx.

Barack Obama.
Obviously.

  1. Ahh! There was actually a BIKE vs. CAR Portland story on INSIDE EDITION tonight. Don't ask why I was watching Inside Edition because I really do not know.
